Don’t make readers weary!

Wow! Isn’t it exciting?

What?

Everything!

Yes, today everything, it seems, has to be exciting and in writing that often means peppering the page with exclamation marks!

The trouble is that after you’ve used one or two, exclamation marks cease to have any effect.

The best approach is to use them sparingly when there is a genuine exclamation or cause for excitement: hurray!

That way exclamation marks remain effective and readers don’t get sick of them.
